UK Esports: S.E.A. Dragons Win BFBS Pro League Final at RAF Museum London

The British Forces Broadcasting Service brought armed forces esports to the Royal Air Force Museum in London on 27 September 2026, where S.E.A. Dragons won the BFBS Valarian Pro League Grand Final. It capped a busy month for UK esports, with British Esports also opening sign-ups for the 2026/27 Student Champs.

S.E.A. Dragons beat the favourites

According to BFBS's official announcement, eight teams from across the armed forces esports community reached the Grand Final. S.E.A. Dragons took the title by beating favourites the Army Buzzards 4-2 in a best-of-seven final, in front of a live audience.

BFBS says the champions' parents have served, and one team member is also a civil servant in Gibraltar. Speaking for his teammates, Ben Lyon said: "Unbelievable! I'm literally speechless, the amount of hard work we've gone through for the semi-finals and finals is immense."

The Pro League is open to the wider armed forces community, including serving personnel, veterans, reservists, MOD civil servants, cadets and immediate family members. British Esports' event listing describes the competition as BFBS's Rocket League grand final and the biggest BFBS Pro League event to date.

More than a final

The day doubled as a showcase for military careers and technology. BFBS says visitors could try augmented reality experiences including HADO, esports simulators and drones, with support from RAF Air Cadets, the British Army, the RAF and Royal Navy STEM teams. The RAF Theatre hosted a panel on military esports, and the British Army Rifles Band and RAF cadet bands performed.

Valarian was headline sponsor, and Wifinity supported the league through the 2026 season. Robert Wylie, Head of BFBS Esports, said: "The standard of the competition this season has been exceptional, and the Grand Final was a fitting conclusion."

Student Champs 2026/27 adds Marvel Rivals

At the grassroots level, British Esports has confirmed the 2026/27 Student Champs line-up, with registration opening on 14 September. The competition is open to secondary schools, further education colleges and alternative provision schools across the UK, for students aged 12 and over.

Key changes this season:

  • Marvel Rivals becomes the fifth title in the full Open and Nationals competition, joining Rocket League, League of Legends, Overwatch 2 and VALORANT (16+).
  • Clash Royale Cup brings a mobile esports title to the Student Champs for the first time.
  • Student Champs Racing League – the F1 sim racing tournament, formerly operated by Williams Esports, is now fully run by British Esports.
  • Community broadcasts will let schools and colleges stream Student Champs matches on their own channels.
  • The Women in Esports Overwatch 2 Cup returns.

British Esports says more than 3,000 students compete across some 700 teams, representing more than 200 schools and colleges. The Nationals begin in January 2027.

Leadership moves in UK student esports

British Esports Founder and President Chester King has also been named Esports Ambassador for GEMS Education, announced on 24 September, as the schools group develops an education-led esports programme across its network.

Why it matters

From forces leagues to schools, much of the growth in UK esports is happening outside the professional leagues — in education, community and defence. Those programmes need event staff, coaches, broadcasters and safeguarding leads.
